If this is the wrong board for this let me know and I will move it...I wasn't really sure where it belonged.
I am going to upgrade my hard drive so I will have more space on it. I was checking on my System Information in Windows 98 to try to find out what I need to upgrade. While there I found under the Heading "Problem Devices", that evidently I have a problem I didn't know about. I'm not sure what the device is that is "broken" or if I need to fix it before putting in a new hard drive. Could someone take a look at the info below to see if they have any idea how I could find out what a SCSI Adapter is and how to fix it? I'm sorry if I'm giving you too much information: This is under system information: Microsoft Windows 98 4.10.1998 Clean install using OEM Preinstall Kit /T:C:\WININST0.400 /SrcDir=C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS /IS /IW /IQ /ID /IV /IZ /II /NR /II /C /U:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx IE 5 6.0.2600.0000 Uptime: 0:05:01:33 Normal mode On "COMPAQ" as "Default" Compaq AuthenticAMD AMD-K6(tm) 3D processor 220MB RAM 74% system resources free Windows-managed swap file on drive C (1045MB free) Available space on drive C: 1045MB of 3079MB (FAT32) Available space on drive D: 307MB of 1024MB (FAT32) This is what is listed under Problem Device: DTC3181X/DTC3151X SCSI Host Adapter SCSIAdapter This Device Has a Problem: Code=10 (0xA) This device is not present, not working properly, or does not have all the drivers installed. Right now my hard drive has a 3GB capacity and what I would like to do is upgrade that to at least 20GB. Can someone help me find out if I need to fix my mystery problem before putting in a new hard drive? |

DTC - seems to me to be SCANNER software - could be wrong but it rings a bell
SCSI = SMALL COMPUTER SYSTEM INTERFACE - this is if you have either a SCSI controller for SCSI hard drives or SCSI SCANNERS or Scanners connected to the printer port but using "SCSI"interface so a SCSI interface will be "Emulated" as the scanner is shutdown or not connected to the computer then it will give you this error.. If this would be the hard drive Cdrom or any disk device this device wouldn't work - in Device Manager - find are there any yellow exclamation marks? If yes where and in what section..

lexi,
Could you provide us with a list of peripherals you are using. I have seen similar errors with USB devices (such as my 250Meg USB Zip). |

Hi PMich...
I'm not quite sure what you mean about peripherals...is there someplace on my computer that would list them? If you mean other things hooked up to the computer I have Hewlett Packard Deskjet 930 Printer. I also have an Acer Prism Scanner( which a month old). I have a CDRW Drive that I just put in at christmas. I checked under the Microsoft System Information link that in Program Files and it didn't have any listings of peripherals. The one thing that really has me puzzled about this is that everything is working...so even if I'm getting this "problem message" it can't be too bad a problem right? Hpro, I don't know if you meant both of your posts were to the wrong person but since you mentioned scanner....This is a new scanner and I'm wondering if this could be the problem. I also went into the device manager and there was a yellow exclamation mark but it was only under the SCSI Controller section...when i clicked on the properties for that it said the device is either not install, not working properly or does not have all the drivers installed. SO I clicked on "update driver" and it told me it already hads the best driver installed. By the way, I have used the scanner and it works fine. |
