I recently acquired 2 identical IBM systems with Pentium 100's in them. The mobo is socket 5 and I want to know if it's possible to overclock them (especially since i'm not worried about long life!!).
Thanks for any help.

Pentium 100's were not multiplier locked. If you can find a manual for your motherboard(s), you can tell. If the motherbaord has multipliers that go above what it's set to right now, you can try it. I doubt you can overclock using the FSB. Most motherbaords that old didn't have much in the way of FSB adjusters. Try it with the multiplier though. Right now, it's prolly set to 66Mhz with a 1.5 mulitplier. If you can get it to go higher than that (2.0 multiplier or more), then you have the potential to overclock. The actual ability to overclock that particular chip, I don't know. You can always try.

I have yet to see a P-100 that will overclock via increased multiplier, and the FSB on those old boards tops out at 66.

Seems to me the fastest Pentium that will run in a Socket 5 board is a 133 - *if* the board has a X2 multiplier jumper.

I just put a used P-120 into a socket 5 AOpen board (AP5C) and am running it at 133 no problems.
