I want to thank the "PC Hardware" users that helped & answered
my many questions - allowing my successful System build these last 2 weeks. It all went well; Win ME loaded, WD HD formated & fdisk'd, Antex SX1030 worked fine!, burps with PCI cards - all overcome, and even Creative's Blaster 16 PCI finally loaded AOK. Couple of points which made it happen: a. [Antec SX-1030] Case - was a great choice, lots of room - really built well - commercial quality. More like a 2 1/2-car garage! b. Having (6) six Win 3.1 floppy version of a "full system", allowed me to load a Windows Upgrade version (ME) onto my new hardware. (all legally bought by me!) c. Trashed new [Diamond 56k Modem PCI] card, would not load for anything, gave up in desperation - installed a US Robotics 56k PCI - perfect first time! d. MUCH difficulty getting Creative's [Blaster 16 PCI] card to install, had to reload full ME - to find required files to drive it? Creative was NOT much help. e. Had to play some, with [Soyo mobo] BIOS parameters - in order to get it recognize IDE primary & sec devices. Lots of AUTO helped. Now have IDE1 = WD 20g HD, IDE2 = Sony CD-RW, Creative 52x CD. f. Western Digital's 20gig HD - at their recommendation, removed master-slave-cs jumper completely, it then fdisk/formatted immediately, using WD's free LIFEGUARD download maker sw. I want to thank all the "PC Hardware" users for their help with this system build - my first since 93. Us retirees still have the urge!! ![]() Thanks, from eastern NC! ncsailors Antec SX1030 VideoExcel TNT2 Soyo SY-K7VTA Pro mobo Creative Blaster 16 PCI Win ME (circa 2/2000) Creative 52x CD-ROM AMD Duron 800mhz Sony 24x/10x/40x Volcano 6Cu+ fan (3) 256meg SDRAM (Crucial, & PNY) ......at least a start!

Hi ncsailors,
Congrats on the successful completion of your build. Looks like you learned a lot! So, when's your next build? Cricket
