Red face checksum error - default loads .....really need help

Well i got an abit KT7A mb and AMD athlon 1.2 i have gotten the newest BIOS. i also have tried to one stick of ram and running bare minimums i still get the same results though ? When i boot it says checksum error - default loads and it tells you to go into softmenu and change settings for proc \ time and all. So if you change anything at all i mean even TIME and save and reboot it just has blank screen and you have to clear CMOS to start up again. I really have no clue on how to fix this i have emailed couple online tech with no reply. You guys on here are pretty cool so i figure id give it a shot. Do you know of any articles concerning with this ?? I cant seem to find anything on this problem specificly.

Thx for any help

Tim.

PS sorry about the length

Hi Orezbus12,

Sounds like the motherboard battery is dead. Get a replacement and see if the problem goes away.

I would say the bios is somehow corrupted as it gives you a blank screen while restarting after Saving the bios.. workaround = flash the bios to it's original bios data..

A voltmeter does not really tell if a battery is good since it does not test a battery under a load. I would still try a fresh battery. Then if this does not work I would try Hpro's suggestion a flash the bios to the original version.

More than likely you are using the old version of this board which does not support this particular processor. See my last post in your other thread on this subject here. .

Hold on and Wait - don't do anything - downloading the manual here - 15 Mb when finnished I will read it andthen give you a checklist what you have to do..so hang on there.
What about the CMOS RESET JUMPER?Look int the picture..

Check that the date is correct in BIOS as well as the time. If the date in BIOS is wrong the checksum error pops up.

hi again

I tried the setting the date and time to the correct time a few times. All that happend was when i go to save and restart it would go to a black screen. That was about all the action i got from it. Also the CMOS reset jumper heh it only boots in the 1+2 position so i couldnt mess that one up lol. The board can support this processor ive looked on about that. This board is supose to be able to support the XP chips also. Ive tried several version of BIOS updates for this board. Still no good results i guess i'm stuck witht he P2 for awhile longer. I'm gonna search for some more info on this THX for the help guys. I didnt think there was gonna be this much trouble in making the PC in the article from this site it looked much easier heheeh.

let me ask a question - in your sig you state that you run a XP Athlon 1700 but in your first post you state that you use a Athlon 1200 - so which is it now? as I read the manual and if I do remember right it maxes out at 1.2Ghz - so which is it now?If you try to OC that computer then I'm sure I know the reason why it resets itself into the bios - the board or CPU can't handle it..

Cool

oops sorry about the sig. i do have both processors but the 1.2 is in the computer right now. I origionally bought it with the XP 1700 and the place i ordered it from said it was the newer version of the board that could handle it. Anyhow i didnt want to argue with them anymore so i got the max CPU supported by the board.. again sorry about the confusion amdmb.com check that out what do you think about that guys responce on this matter ? True or no given i already had one defective part from them.......
