Hello everyone. I would like to build myself a new computer. I am not sure what I need or what is compatable with what. I am looking to build a computer mainly used for photographs, internet, some games, and some word processing. Any help that anyone could give me would be a great help to me. Thanking you in advance. please give us a littel more to work with, how much are you willing to spend, do you want the fastest and the best, what cpu do you think you would like-or want,ect...
you could also do some reasearch yourself like read some of the reviews of componets, read some of the post here noteing what some people are having problems with, and note the recomemdations and advice that is given on this site. a lot of good information here. also study the how to build your own pc here. this is what I did to build the two systems that I now have, working on my second one right now. I am looking to spend around $1,500.00. I don't have a clue of which CPU I would need or want. I don't need the newest, fastest, or best. I don't have much time now to spend on the computer, my 4 kids have taken it over. This is why I would like to build a new one for me! Thanks for the time. Sixpk |

You can get a decent Suuper socket 7 board and an AMD K6-III for REAL cheap. Since you have a $1500 budget, though, you may want something better. Don't get me wrong, I love k6-III's, but there is better.

Plextor has a good reputation and there is a good price on a fast one at www.mwave.com. Just bought one for my son's PC. Will be installing this weekend. BTW, if you buy from there, you will need a 40pin ribbon for it...it's not supplied.

Hey everyone, I forgot to ask your advice on a printer. Since I will be using the system mostly for digital photos any reccomendations on a photo quality printer would be helpful. Thanks. Sixpk.

I have a brand new Sony Spressa 10x4x32 for sale (retail) if you like. Email me if you have any interest of purchase. I even use one myself. Yes. Plextor is nice too. They just came up with 12x10x32 but the price is phew! If you willing to spend more and can save you in the long run, get something fast on write. OnEsolution |

The Hewlett Packard 932c is an excellent printer if you are going the deskjet route. You can pick one up for about $195 dollars right now. Check www.pricewatch.com for the latest prices.
I just built the following Abit SE6 Motherboard PIII 600EB 128MB PC-133 RAM Enlight ATX Mid-Tower Case Generic 3.5 Floppy Generic 48X CD-ROM US Robotics 56k PCI Fax/Modem Western Digital 13 Gigabyte Hard Drive I already had the monitor, keyboard, and mouse. All of that cost me only $750. So, if you add back in the monitor ($300), printer ($200), keyboard ($30), and mouse ($15), you are only up to around $1300. I would spend the extra $200 on a graphics card. The Abit was a great mobo to install...it's jumperless. That particular mobo has on board sound and video. I can eventually disable those on board functions if I want to upgrade the sound or video. It does ok with what it has now though. It ain't exactly tearing up Quake (I can't see EVERY drop of blood) but it works pretty good. ------------------ Jason Padgett padgettj@mindspring.com |
