Abit TH7II Raid Question
This is a question specific to this motherboard. On the motherboard itself are four IDE connectors designated as IDE1, IDE2, IDE3, IDE4 - with numer 3 and 4 being designated as RAID only.
Here is my question that actually pertains to rounded cables I want to use. I will not start out with RAID setup, but will add it later. Can I put my first HDD on IDE1 as primary with a single device rounded cable, then put my CD burner on IDE2 as primary with a single device rounded cable? Now can I put a DVD player on either IDE3 or IDE4 in addition to my second hard drive? I entend to use Striping(RAID 0) with a second HDD. Thanks, hoemee |

Hi hoemee,
The general principle with either onboard or PCI contollers is to put the HDs on IDE 3 & 4 and the optical devices on IDE1 & 2. HTH |

Mike's right. Both Highpoint and Abit do not recommend atapi/optical devices going on eide 3 and 4, although for some people it does work. I have 2 writers on my controller card hooked onto an Epox MB with no problems. But the integrated controller seem to be a bit of a different beast. My Abit KT7/A Raid was picky about what atapi devices it would allow, which tells me it prefered HD's over anything else.

Thanks for the input. What I will do is put the hard drives on IDE3 and IDE4 on single device IDE cables. Then I will put the cd burner on IDE1 and the DVD on IDE2. I am using rounded cables from Sidewinder Computers and the two device cables are not adequate length to reach all devices - if only I could get them custom length.
I do have another question - can I make my own custon length cables? If so can I move one of the device connectors or do I have to get a new one? Thanks, hoemee |
