Howdy,
Specifics are important. The more precise the question, the more precise the answer. Also, it would be handy for folks to reply if the problem was corrected. Some folks ask for help and leave folks wondering if the problem was resolved. Its a courtesy actually. No one is asking for credit (maybe) but some folks go through some effort and wonder if the problem/situation concluded successfully.

I find I have problems that many other have dealt with before. A reply with the solution or confirmation saves the trouble of opening a new thread with an old question.
I also appreciate the help, advice and support I've received on this site. I recently finished my first build and it has not crashed once! I have Never had to reboot. I attribute that to great help in selecting and assembling parts, and I knew nothing when I started reading this forum. Some would say luck, but I think you can maximize your chances at getting good luck by doing your homework. Thanks to everyone! (Gush Gush) |

Thanx for a Great Site
Hey to Toaster, Lawyer Ron and the rest of the PCMECH community
I haven't been on the Internet that long (since 2000) but still I have seen a lot of tech and other sites since my first logon. I have to say that this is the best tech site I have seen since I've been around. Whoever put this site together did a great job and I have seen some crap sites. The bottom line are the people who maintain and frequent the site and you guys are a great bunch of dudes. I have in general found this site to be very useful and informative. Most of the questions I have put to the forums here have been answered and in general if you keep looking you find the information you need. People are often very busy and I'm prepared to wait for a response. I don't mind if a response is not 100 percent or if it's a bit off beam as even a hint can send me off on a search which generally yields me the info I need. Keep the ideas and info coming as this keeps me thinking and gets the needed results. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of the recipient as to what he or she does with any info provided in a response i.e. we need to double check stuff where we are unsure about anything (get a second opinion if necessary). I first came here last year with some things I wanted to clear up about V.90 56K modems and stuff (some great replies from reboot and others). I did a google search and hey presto I ended up at PCMECH. This is a quality site frequented by a knowledgable and friendly bunch of people. I see human communications as one of the greatest challenges in life. It is actually one of the hardest things to do effectively i.e. express yourself and actually be understood and not be misconstrued. People misunderstand one another all the time. I actually like it when someone disagrees with me as this makes me re-evaluate a situation and come at it from another angle. That's the value of differing opinions, personalities and interaction in general. We all get hot under the collar now and then but let's try not to wreck this great medium. So let's not get too petty and let the Good Times Roll on at PCMECH . chou for now The Web Gecko p.s. Toaster : I didn't even get time to run those tests to sort out that 486DX4 100 interleave problem. I had spent too much time already on that damned upgrade so I just swapped to a better m/b. If I snag me a 486 DX30 or whatever it was I'll check it out. I still have the problem m/b. I think it just wasn't optimised for the DX4 100 and that's it. But we'll see cheers |

Into the Gold Fish Bowl It Goes
Those two gold fish of Toasters' seem to be right on it. Can it be that gold fish have now produced the PROOF POSITIVE that God is REAL ! People have always assumed that Mythology was written by people like Homer and others. Maybe it was all written by gold fish after deliberations in the bowl or pond.
The gold fish don't know it but they have discovered a great truth. God is Real because God is Mom and/or Dad (or Mom and/or Dad is God). I mean who else changes the water ? Your sister ? Your girlfriend (kicking and screaming maybe) ? Forget it ! Toasters' gold fish are pretty smart. They have come up with a NEW CONCEPT ! God is Real because and actually Mom and/or Dad is God ! ( or maybe it just means The Web Gecko is losing it !). I wonder what two guppies would come up with ? How about two sea snails ? What about ................ (use your imagination) ??????????????? cheers to Toaster and the crew The Web Gecko (Mister Lizzard) p.s. I'm still hanging in there by my suction cap toes until the job is done eating those bugs for brekfast, lunch and dinner ! chou |

Hello folks,
My sig has a hidden meaning of sorts, the gullability of mankind. So...sure any "pet" sees its "owner" as a sort of God simply because they are reliant upon the owner. So...to the goldfish whoms life rests upon the owner, that owner is God. (hold the goldfish above a swirling toilet and say thats not so

"The Swirling Toilet" aka Toaster
Soundz like a goldfishes' worst nightmare.
What else can a poor goldfish do but be compliant to the one who weilds LIFE, DEATH and hence demands absolute loyalty. We are all beholden to a landlord or the government and like these two orange guys (and/or gals) know where our fish food sits in the water (Que ?). ![]() cheers The Web Gecko |

Hi to all, I feel that I must say this is a very nice site and usally
pleasant and patient with everybody. I myself don't visit this site often enough but like reading the questions and replies that are left for what I believe is everyone but to what I really need to get to when I post an "I need help" or "how do I do" the first thing that comes to mind is " IF THE COVER IS REMOVED THE WARRANTY IS VOID" which mean that even though there maybe some professionals that respond any action I take is on my own because this site is free and the only person to hold responsible is the one taking the cover off not the one who is giving advice anyway thanks again for the site |

Question
I've had nothing but success with all the people I've encountered at this website and I'm sure it has already saved my time and money.
Anyway I have a question, if I have a question and I post it but nobody answers it, is it okay to bump it up before it falls down into the depths of the message board? |

You shouldn't need to worry that much about bumping. Every couple of days I run through all of the pages in the PC Hardware forum and try and reply to everything with ZERO posts. Just makes me cry seeing people sit there all lonely

Howdy,
As wheels suggests, your question may be too vague or the post was simply missed or even gone unread by someone who could assist you with your question. It seems that "party night" and "party night +1" are times when folks post least and you need to be patient. Notes: "Party night" =Friday "Party night +1" =Saturday |

Those new to the board should understand that this board isn't necessarily populated by professional technicians, although there are professionals among us.
The seasoned members of the board should remember that there are people who have owned computers for years and don't have a clue about them. All of us operate machinery daily and haven't a clue as to how they work! What is nice is if the poster of the original question would post back as to how the problem got fixed. |

Ok, All, from the viewpoint of a newbie to the site, two things. The fact that I can get info RIGHT NOW is invaluable, and the level of information is top-notch. Second, it's primarily a techno-site, not a chat-room, although the "screwdrivers" went fork-in-the-road a bit! I appreciate the advice, the banter, and the fact that mods (as Hal just did a bit ago) keep the threads pretty much in line, and pointed toward legal tips and tricks. I am very happy to have found the site. I especially enjoy exchanges with fellow computer enthusiasts from outside the US. It could be thought of as one way to foster better relations around the world.

Kraken,
It seems you are somewhat "disconnected" in thought. Or, at least it appears so to me. Might I suggest a bit more restraint with your "recreational" intoxication? PS. Your "nic" "Kraken". Is this the Kraken summoned by Posidon to terrorize sea fairing vessels? |
