General read-me. All members please read!

Hello folks,

Recently, there was some bad feelings evolving from a post asking for assistance.
Please keep in mind that folks tend to answer the question(s) as they are put to them. If the question is vague, so shall be the reply.
Be as specific as you can offering every bit of info you can muster.
Don't be shy in thinking your post is "too long" as more info is ALWAYS better then too little.

An example of a vague question:
"My car is broken, whats wrong with it?"

An example of a proper question:
"My car doesn't crank, no headlights or other lights come on, what do I do first?"

From example 2, we have enough info to start trouble shooting by suggesting either the "battery" or related items.

From example 1, we have no info whatsoever and have to make ASSUMPTIONS.
If your info is so vague that folks have to leap to conclusions, these conclusions are going to be nothing more then a "stab in the dark".

So...give us the low down, all the gory details you can muster.

Limiting responses to a particular "class" of members is a sort of insult IMHO and should be avoided. However, if you wish a reply from a particular member its acceptable to do so. Others might reply and their info ALONG with the info by the requested member could be VERY useful.

Bottom line:
Be as specific as you can and if you can't, ask what info they need to better help you.
Keep it CIVIL!

I also would like to add that the previous threads and the misunderstanding were not my fault at all but EdRod13's fault for giving me bad advice... He has even been e-mailing me threating me, I immidiately removed my address from my profile. I will not offend anyone any more so please accept my appoplogy (Except EDROD13, I will NEVER appologize for what he did)

Talking Appreciation

I want to say this is the best site I have ever seen. I regularly frequent the radio control helicopter sites, like www.runryder.com and others. Those sites offer the same partnership of helping each other as here, but the overall friendliness and helpfulness of this site is amazing. The help I have received has saved me, literally, hundreds of dollars. At Runryder, they usually let the contestants battle it out and the membership will usually determine who is right and the other one will leave or submit. However, most of the disputes there are over sales. Heres an example: http://www.runryder.com/showtopic.ht...0&topicid=4533

I commend the leadership here for stepping in, as the disputes take a toll on the constructive threads.

Anyway, I am glad to be a member here and am willing to take the good with the bad, as the good is saving me CASH!!!!!

Is there a fund available where I can help this site? At the heli sites we make donations to help support the expenses of running a server.

Apology accepted in this corner. Here's to another good contributing member of PCMechanic. I (along with others, I'm sure) never found the "bad advice" you keep repeating that you received. If you (SD_girl_PC) could please show me the posting containing this "bad advice", I'm sure it could help clear everything up.

Again, from me.. Welcome to PCMechanic.

Holy Cow

I missed the whole brouhaha until this post, then I went back and checked all the relevant threads.

Let me say that I'm very grateful to have found this forum and very appreciative to those who've taken the time to advise me.

Just a note of thanks to all the moderators and visitors to this forum:
The level of polite consideration and care for each person's plight here
on this forum are unlike anything I've seen. This is like going over to
a friend's house where you know you are welcome and valued just as you are.

Thanks again, all

Hello Gary, (and others)

This site stands alone in a friendly atmosphere.
Activity that would be common to other sites is not promoted nor acceptable here. Here, at the 'Mech, we like to be civil, kind and useful.
While many folks have opinions and such opinions are open for discussion, we do so in a civil mannor.
Everyone makes a mistake and/or steps over the line. Everyone gets a second chance, a third chance is practically nil however.
We strive to be helpful, courteous and as direct as practical.
Not everyone will subscribe to your opinion but all have a right to voice that opinion without a possible "hassle".
We obviously DO NOT tolerate "flaming" "name calling" and illeagal activities of ANY sort. Anyone violating the above will be delt with quickly and harshly.
Thanks for the kind words and your support.

I don't consider myself a PC genious put if I have an answere to a particular problelm that I have encountered before I enjoy giving out the best advice possible to solve that problem. I have learned an awful lot of useful info from this site and I visit it regulary as often as I can and will continue to visit this site everyday. My applause to everyone out their who takes the time help out others. Thank you and God bless

On technical issues, if I don't have an answer for a poster, I'll pass or perhaps provide a link to assist. It serves no purpose to give advice you know nothing about, except to cause further mayhem. On opinion type threads, I'll jump in.

Of all the members in the forum, the only one to ever give me any problems or use foul language with me is werewolfdaddy. I don't understand why he is allowed to remain.

Seriously, this is the best forum on the net and I am PROUD to be a part of it. Here's to many more years of prosperity for PCMECHANIC.

I've got a couple of Hal's movies on DVD. I got to admit, he looks impressive on a 19" monitor and my geforce 3.

Question Poor response ?

Hi Everyone,

I agree with toaster that questions should specific and concise. At the same time, I notice that some posts are unanswered or answered by only 1 or 2 replies (mine included) They were quite specific (though maybe basic) and not rude (frustrated maybe, but certainly not rude)

Maybe there's other reason/protocol which I or a few others are not aware of
Of course, my observation may not be valid at all but the "basis" is on a couple of posts made (by me) in XP and 98 forum.
