You could probably add a PCI video card. The only one I've used was an AOpen with an Nvidia chip and 32mb ram. It was no problem on a 2 year old HP. The only mod to the system was disabling the onboard 810 video in the device mgr.

Hi jtlojac,

There is either an option in the BIOS to disable the on-board video, or it disables itself when a new video card is detected.

Smile

I just installed an ATI PCI 128 Video I/O in a 5245 Compaq, I made no attempt to disable the onboard video, nor did I see any jumpers. Win 98 came up and found the new I/O then I installed the CD drivers, set all the settings and went into start and unchecked anything that said ATI, that was all there was to it. The lady had video problems with her display on a 1 year old 19" view Sonic Monitor, another Tech told her she needed to buy a new monitor. The Computer was a 1998 model and I told her it would be wiser to try a new card first. I unchecked everything in start up because ATI likes to pop all kinds of desktop icons and easy settings bars. All that can be done from the control panel and it sometimes intimidates users if they are on the desktop. ATI is my card of choice for Compaqs because they are easy to set up and seldom give problems. The 5245 had no AGP and just 2 PCIs. Hope that helps you out. MA_DUCE

Cool One last thing.

I just wanted to see for myself, so I hooked the Monitor up to the old onboard VGA port. It seems that, at least on this Compaq installing the PCI video card did disable the onboard video.
