I just installed a supraexpress 56ki and it works great! Only a couple probs though: one I can take care of involving a longer sound card-to modem-speaker cable(I have onboard sound and supplied cord is too short).
The other one is this: The new modem used com2(irq3) whereas my older usr 56k winmodem used com1. I'd like to switch the modem back to com1, freeing up irq3. Is it possible? you can try going into bios setup and make sure com1 is disabled, and com2 is enabled, freeing com1 up for windows. otherwise you really shouldn't try to force pnp devices. windows puts them where it wants, and forcing them will just increase the possibility of not working. so just let it go where it goes.

Any particular reason why you prefer com1 or com2? Just curious. Unless there's a real good reason, which you may have, I'd let the board pick it's own IRQ.
I take it there's no jumper setting on the modem board. Right? |

thanks for the reply. Since I first posted this topic, I've learned that this modem works best on com2 so I think I'll leave it there. If I ever need irq4 back I can disable com1 in setup. Thanks

Com 2 IRQ 4????
Com 1 should be IRQ 4 and Com 2 should be IRQ 3. |

No problem - only reason I mentioned it is because I actually *had* a plug and play modem set itself up on Com 2 IRQ 4 a few weeks ago....and it didn't work. This was an ISA AOpen ITU modem with jumpers - so I switched it out of plug and play mode and manually jumpered it...and it works like a champ now.
