Question

My father uses an old modem Connection (I guess thats what you call it) software called Commute. This is Dos software that comes with PC Tools. He uses it on all his computers and his clients, and has always found it effortless to set up on his and others systems. He also uses Win95.
We installed it on a new computer with a Zoom 56K PCI Win Modem. When We try to use the software through Dos it can't seem to find the Modem. When we go through Windows we are able to dial out but unable to connect. I don't know if it matters but this modem is significantly newer and faster than the modems in the other systems.

If you are using it in full DOS (not in a dos window within windows) then i dont think you can use that winmodem, cuz winmodems need the drivers in windows to do some of the processing, they cant work in dos.

Charliey is right. Swap out the Winmodem for an external serial modem. Winmodems use virtual com ports that will not work with Dos based comm software that's looking for a standard com port.

Diamond Supra Express is prolly the best modem out there and the external *serial* model is under $100. Don't use a USB modem - same issues as the Winmodem and USB wont work in Dos anyway.
