Question

My bro in law has a Philips monitor.

On the back it says 7CM5279/00T and TY109315024054. I think the first number is the model as there are similarly numbered drivers in the Philips folder on the Win95 CD.

I dont know the specs of this one, anyone know if it will do higher res than 640x480? With the standard SVGA 800x600 driver from Win95 it doesnt even allow the res to be set higher than 640x480, the slider is greyed out. I experimented with other drivers like the Daewoo and got the slider to appear but moving it up to 800x600 and more caused funny effects, blurred, fuzzy, jumpy etc

I emailed Philips for the specs and the right driver as I couldnt find the details on their site but no reply yet.

My Bro in law bought this PC years ago without asking me first and because he is extremely non tech he relies on me to fix stuff for him. He has been blissfully unaware of any probs but now has some games that require 800x600 min and I need to help him, poor guy.

Hope someone can help with this one.

TIA

Your problem may not be the monitor drivers at all. I ran into a similar situation and it turned out to be the video card drivers. Try downloading the most recent drivers for his video card to see if that will help.

Thanks Jason, you could be right, I'll try that after I hear from Philips whether it can do more than 640x480. It's a Voodoo 3 2000 using the distribution drivers. Also I think that even with the latest video drivers it still should realy be using the correct monitor driver for it to work properly.

Philips are so slooow to answer tech queries, I had an acknowledgement now but still not a proper reply *sigh* I actualy now suspect this is just a VGA monitor and will only do 640x480.

The model # is 7CM5279 and may be available as a Magnavox. I believe that if your slider is greyed out, the correct video card driver is not installed but still, that monitor may not do better than 256 colors at 640x480. Here's a link with very little info ... http://www.monitorworld.com/Monitors...s/7CM5279.html

As said on this website, your 14"-monitor can display max. 1024x768 !!
So try to re-install your drivers for the video card, and be sure there is the right monitor model in device manager.

I have seen a LOT of older 14 inch monitors that will run at 1024x768 but *NOT* at 800x600. We have one on our test bench that is like this..its a "Standard" that will actually refresh at 75 Hz at 640x480 and 70 Hz at 1024x768...but totally refuses to sync at 800x600 at *any* frequency.
