Mustek 1200 ub scanner installed and working great except for one small problem, when I turn off the computer, then turn it back on later, the scanner does not work, I must unplug it from the usb port, then olug it back in and all working fine till I turn off the computer, then its back to square on , unplug,plug-in.
the usb camera works fine always, so the usb ports must be working ok, system devices says all working ok, but at the power up when it don,t work it says the cable is not connected, unplug-plug-in then it is all working good. what could be set up wrong here ? |

That is common with USB. It cannot always enumerate devices on bootup, especially if they draw a lot of power from the port. You may have to get an AC powered USB hub.

wrong, try again.
bought a ac powered hub today and the problem did not change, device says all working ok, scan program says cable not connected. they are all connected. the only differnce now is that I unplug the scsnner and plug it back in it still won't work, take the hub out and plug scanner in to the back of computer, it works till i shut down or leave it alone for a while then it quits agn. the scanner works, the hub works, the software works but all three wont work together. about ready to take them all back as defective and get my mony back. |

I assume you have uninstalled all USB devices and reinstalled them at least once or twice? What version of Windows do you have? Do you have the latest Mustek drivers for your OS? Do you have a VIA chipset motherboard? If so, did you install Windows and the Via 4 in 1 driver in the *exact* sequence recommended?
I'm grasping at straws here......... I personally don't care for Mustek products - it may well be defective but you do have to rule everything else out. Don't get rid of the hub - you might need it someday if you want to add more USB devices. The only USB scanners I have personally worked with are Visioneer, Acer, and HP - and have never seen these *exact* symptoms but the HP seems to make Windows startup take a LOT longer while it's being re-enumerated. (it takes a full minute to do its thing and let Windows finish loading). I *have* heard of instances where if you use a USB device it knocks out any USB device sitting on the other port....have you tried restarting Windows with your camera disconnected? |

w98,440bx,128 meg, yes I did reinstall the drivers, no I did not try with camera removed. scanner has been running all day now with no problems except the boot-up, I don't know of anyone with this kind of problem, this scanner is really plug & play, it is designed to run off the buss power, even laptops, so maybe it is supposed to be plugged in to start it up. run off a e-mail to tech support, maybe they mite have a good answere for me, if not back to wall-mart it goes and then I'll have to save up for a hp 5200.
thanks fer the help |

well it looks like I can't have all.
eather the scanner or the pc camera, not both, I thought that that was the main reason for the usb hub-ports to have many devices, guess not |

I wonder...the hub might be defective if it's showing those symptoms...can you get *anything* to be seen *through* it?
HP 5200 is a nice scanner, but there are cheaper ones that do a good job. Sam's here has a little Visioneer USB for $59. We have an Acer 620U that works *nice* and will run on Win 95B. |
