It's PCI, and has only one chip on it. It's a winmodem.
There are only 4 NON-winmodems that are PCI. Actiontech Multitech GVC USR/3com EVERY other PCI modem (unless there's a new one I don't know about) is a winmodem. Want (arguably) the best modem ever built? Get the Diamond Supra Express ISA, or external. ------------------ Who needs a life?, I have internet! Cheers, Jim Jim & Sue's Free Files | Jims Modems |

Supra Max is a Rockwell HCF chipset (single chip) Host Control Function softmodem.
Just fine for average (read AOL type) surfing, email on a Prickard Hell, but not for anything else. Supra Express is a Rockwell (Conexant) HARD modem, that uses the 6793 (I think) chipset (a REALLY good one too!) ------------------ Who needs a life?, I have internet! Supra Max is Winmodem. I know, I messed up and bought one real cheap about 3 months back. After all the publicity about Diamonds here, I was amazed at my good fortune to find one less than $20.00. I just saw Diamond and Supra and snached that puppy before someone else beat me to it. But as old P T used to say, "Theres one born every minute". And one more note, they're much more of a resource hog than my USR. It bought my ole' Compaq (60MHz) to a grinding halt. The USR ran decent in it.

Hey AO,
If you go with a winmodem, you need a fast computer. As Confused said, they use cpu resources and you would not want to use one on a slower Pentium such as a P60 or P100, etc. I've use the Zoom winmoden on my P233 mmx and have been pleased with the performance. Now it's in my Cely 500 and works fine. But I don't use it for online gaming, just basic web surfing. In my opinion, Zoom makes one of the better winmodems and It works fine on the faster computers. ------------------ "To speak ill of others is a dishonest way of praising ourselves" |
