fqpissed Sound card problem

I have a Compaq Deskpro EP-300 that is giving me grey hairs,It has the es 1869 chip onboard and the drivers for that are junk..Tried several different ones including what compaq has and all they do is cause problems with video and other things..So...I decided to stick in a soundblaster but my question is,Is How can I disable the onboard sound? I did it in bios and it still shows up in device manager..Does that cause a conflict even though I have everything diabled? The Soundblaster installs but no sound from that...Help! I am too young for grey hair!..

I has the same problem.
All I did was let the drivers install for onboard audio.
Install the sound blaster and then go to my computer, control panel, system,
then click the device manager tab, then just disable the on board audio from there. It should have a red X on it after the disabling, it worked and is still working fine for me.

Hope this helps!

Just a thought

Which Sound Blaster card are you dealing with? On my motherboard there was a jumper that disabled onboard sound. Also, I disabled it in BIOS and removed the driver program from Control Panel. I have a Sound Blaster PCI 512 working fine on another system that had On-Board sound.

No doubt Compaq is making this transition a bit more difficult. No telling what they have installed in there.

Good Luck
