Mouse for him and trackball for me ?
Can I, with two users logging on ( or more if it comes to that ) use a trackball and a mouse ( an intelli-eye ) on the same machine? I know it sounds strange but with the different varieties, serial, usb and so forth, would this work?

Do you mean use two or more mice on the same system (and monitor)? If so, no, you can only use one mouse at a time.

I am not sure about this, but I believe you can do this if both of the devices are USB. And if it didn't work or causes conflicts, at least with USB they would be hot switchable.

You can set up two hardware profiles -- one with the mouse, one with the ball. Ass long as they are either both USB or one is legacy and one is USB, there would be no conflict. Use would depend on who is logged in under which hardware profile.

Oops, looks I misread the question. I though it was about using a mouse and trackball at the same time. If it's for two different users, then yes it will work, as long is one mouse is USB and the other is PS/2.

You've just ended what was promising to be an on going argument. He can get his USB mouse at CompUSA and quit driving me crazy.

I've setup and used a no-name PS/2 corded mouse with a USB wireless Logitech optical mouse on a Win98se PC with no problems at all ... both mice can be used at the same time.

You can use a PS/2 mouse and a serial mouse at the same time, you can even watch them "fight" over which direction the cursor is going, I haven't tried the dual PS/2 mouse trick yet but I do have a cable I could try it with.

I actually installed a sketch board for for drawing and it connected to the same ps/2 port as the mouse. They were hooked in series with a jumper. The computer started the sketch pad in the background and no matter where I moved the cursor with my mouse the pointer would return to the same point on my computer screen as soon as I stopped moving. It took awhile and alot of questions till I found out that the pen was lying on the sketch board and not in its holder.
Simple problem that boggles the simple mind. |

I have an intelimouse hooked up to my ps2 and I have a wireless explorer hooked up USB and all is fine

Sorry for the delay in replying. Thanks for your "war stories", I now have a pretty good idea of what to expect.
gstope, I will not be using a sketchpad but since I know several people who will I'll pass along your story. That "duh'oh" feeling is a computing hazard  .
