First, if you type in caps it assumes you are yelling!

Second are you using an 80 conductor pin cable? Any local pc store should have one or try bigger stores like best buy etc...

If you are using an 80 cunductor cable what are your jumpers set to. HTH

I say this because I once got that same error message when indeed I was using an 80 conductor cable. Let us know

Yes if you look at the ribbon cable 80 has twice as many strands as the standard 40 wire ribbon cable although they have the same width. Also 80 wire ribbon cable will have a blue, a gray and a black connector leads. the blue goes to the board the black goes to the harddrive. also if you plan on hooking a cdrom to the gray then set the jumpers to cs. If not your harddrive jumpered as master will be fine.

Matt,
"HTH" means: "Hope that helps".

Getting the cable will maximize the performance of your drives, or if you just want to get rid of the error, go into your BIOS setup and disable UDMA on your secondary channel.

By the way if you're gonna keep the DVD drive on the same cable as the harddrive, an 80 wire cable will do you no good as current optical drives only support ATA-33. The ATA channel will always default to the speed of the device with the slowest connection.
