Question

Hi!,

I was just given a Canon BJC620 printer.
It works, execpt that it will not print black.

I have tried 2 new black ink tanks to no help. I have tried the cleaning cycle countless times. Does it need a heavy duty manual cleaning? If so, what to use? Cotton swabs and denatured alcohol? Or should I replace the printhead?

Any Ideas and words of Wisdom are gratefully accepted!!!

Thanks Much!!!!

OOPS!,

I had a BJC4200 which had a similar problem, except it wasn't printing at all. I tried the cleaning cycle several times to no avail. Instead of replacing just the black or color cartridge, try replacing the set. Canon sells them together in a set, which will come with a new printhead. This solved my problem, and hopefully will work for you.

Hi!!!,

I got the printer to work finally. I took the print head out and gave it a good cleaning, plus I cleaned the contacts inside the printer. Reassemble and it worked!

Thanks for the reply,
jasonrg.

Hi,

I have a BJC610. Just so you know, on Canon's web site are some excellent diagnostic interactive web pages. I had a problem with mine once, it was blinking lights that weren't documented in the manual. It told what to do to fix the problem. There are quite a few diagnostic routines that can be done to the printer that are not documented in the manual. They are listed on that web site.

FYI. Good Luck. Dwight

Hi F525!

Thanks for the advise. I missed that link at Canon when I was searching the site. I will save this thread so I will remember it.

Question

I have a BJC-4400 that is doing the same thing.... no print in colors or black. Is removing the print head a difficult job, or does it just snap out? Are there contacts to be cleaned with alcohol or something similar?

The printheads are removable. Soak them in about ½ inch of hot water for fifteen minutes and then run the cleaning routine again.

I think the happiest day of my computing experience was when I got rid of my Canon 620 and got a HP 722. It is not worth the price of new printheads in my opinion. Print quality sucks by current standards and the ink cost was off the wall. It also gummed up if I went away and did not use it for a while.

Buy.com has an interesting deal going until the end of the month. Buy a HP 840 or 930 on the same receipt with a $48 E-Stamp starter kit and E-Stamp will rebate the full cost of the printer minus shipping. They will also give you $50 in free postage ($45 after their 10%). The 930 has the new RET III heads.

The buy.com deal is a one hell of a deal, but unfortunately they are out os stock on the deskjet 930 printers and don't expect anymore until mid July.

Cool

I ordered this deal Monday morning. My bill at Buy.com with a $20 coupon including freight of $13.44 is $216.38. I'll get my $50 stamps, $175 rebate from E-Stamp, and I ordered through Ebates who'll send me another $12 or so. Total to receive = $237. I'll get an outstanding printer FREE plus make $20 on the side. Now that's a deal that's hard to beat.

Look carefully at the stock situation on the printers. They are showing out of stock. I was told that there would be no more until Mid-July. The rebate offer expires June 30, 2000 and must be postmarked by July 15,, 2000. As you have to send the barcode for the printer in to get a rebate you will be too late. It is a great deal if you can get it but I don't like the terms.

Cool

They've just extended the rebate date to August 15th. I read it in LockerGnome this morning. You must still order by June 30 though.
