Mouse out of sync

Am using Windows 98. To use the mouse I have to position mouse about 1cm to left of required icon to click icon. If editing text, I have to position I-beam approximately 1cm to left of required insertion point. Mouse okay in vertical movement.

Mouse is usual microsoft COM1 port. Was okay, switched off computer and when switched back on the problem ocurred.

Any advice gratefully received!!

Welcome to this board. Have you tried to remove and reinstall the mouse drivers? It sounds like they might be corrupt.

If that fails, try a different mouse. The one you are using now might be going south.
