PC Noises Through Speakers
Hi all, I have just formatted my machine and reinstalled 98 & Office,
Sound n Modem Drivers. Now when ever I start the machine and get into the windows desktop i can hear a sound like the speakers are picking up static or component noises, is this due to wrong sound card driver installation or ocmpnent malfunction. Any help you can give me with this would be greatfully appreciated yours Mark |

marc_c,
You can first try disconnecting your CD audio cable that's connected from your CD ROM to your soundcard. Then go to your device manager and enable "Digital playback" under the CD ROM tab. |

Hi mark_c,
Double click on the speaker icon (by the clock) and see if the microphone volume is muted or not. Make sure it's muted if you aren't using a microphone. If you don't see the microphone volume slider, go to Options> Properties and place a check mark next to it and hit Okay. Mute anything you aren't using. You might also want to check in Device Manager (or System Information) to see that the soundcard isn't sharing IRQ's with any other device. Cricket
