i can't seem to get any joysticks or pads to work.
i bought a leda destiny d1 pad at xmas last year. installed it exactly as told to in the manual...Game Controllers says it's "not connected". nonsense. i then tried to put a friends SideWinder Original onto my comp. no luck there either [though it works on his and another mates computer]! so i figured, 'perhaps it's the port?!' so i bought a Saitek Cyborg 3D USB, cos i've got a logitech pilot USB mouse... this time it said it was connected, then when i go to test or calibrate it, it says it's not connected "please reinsert the controller". so i uninstalled it. then reinstalled it. this time i add it in the same way as told to in the manual, and this time it doesn't even appear in the Game Controllers! i need help! i'm losing my mind and my will to live... well maybe not the latter... thanks. |

After you install the joystick and drivers, go into Device Manager and see if there are any conflicts. If no conflicts and your joystick is not showing in Device Manager, see if there are any free IRQ's left - double click 'Computer" (In Device Manager)

What i was saying is if you don't have any free IRQ's left your joystick will not install properly. Go into Control panel-System - Device Manager then double click Computer. This will show all your IRQ's and which devices they are assiciated with. If all are used (1 to 15) you will have a problem installing the stick. Post back .
I just noticed you installed a USB stick so the IRQ's are not the problem. [This message has been edited by fordvan (edited 06-21-2000).] |

i looked at the irq's...
all are used, but 3 of them say exactly the same thing "irq for pci steering" on 10, 10, and 12 10 is used by 4 items (pci modem, external mid device [which i assume is the soundcard], and two irq steering things) and 12 is used by the irq steering and a voodoo3 card(pci) i'm absolutley stumped. |

Your IRQ settings with IRQ steering are normal. In Device Manager look at Universal Bus Controllers and post back what is listed under that. Another way to install a USB device is to start Windows, let it load completely then plug in the joystick while Windows 98 is running. As soon as you plug it in Windows will prompt you for the drivers. I'm assuming you are running Win 98 ?

yes, i run win98. win95 doesn't have usb support, right?
i've tried plugging in the stick b4 turning on the comp, and whilst windows is running. Both times it installs fine, then when i go to game controllers to calibrate it....pooof..gone! anyway, under usb controller in device manager... "Intel 82371 AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller" "USB Root Hub" that's it. is that right? i hate pc's...but y'gotta love'em. |

I found this at http://www.saitekusa.com/support/oth...orgsupp.html#3
3 Q: Why doesn't my Saitek game controller appear in the game controller list when I click Add? A: Try re-installing the Saitek driver. You may have exceeded the limit of controllers, which can be viewed in Windows. In game controllers, click Add, click on a manufacturers controller that you do not wish to use, then press the Del key on your keyboard, then click OK. Finally click Add, then click on your Saitek Controller which should now appear in the list. The game controller section of your Windows registry may be corrupt. Download the file removejoy.zip from the download area of the Saitek website, unzip and run the file removejoy.exe, then re-try adding your controller. Hope this helps |

Another thing to try if that doesn't work, is to go into Windows in safe mode (Press F8 incesently just before you see the Windows 98 splash screen, then choose safe mode). Open up the device manager and remove all drivers for game controllers that you see. You may have old drivers that don't appear normal mode, but are still there. After uninstalling them all in safe mode, restart in normal mode and reinstall. This may help.

Sorry,
Also uninstall the drivers for the USB ports and game ports, and allow Windows to reinstall them. -KEiTH |

Just wondering-- did the removejoy program from the Saitek site I mentioned earlier help?

Just removing them all from the device manager should be all you have to do in order to "uninstall" them. They are still on the harddrive of course, but the computer won't try to use them if you do this in safe mode.

well, it's back.
i can't get the usb stick to work again, or the scard port sticks. the usb stick worked fine until i tried to install saitek gaming extensions, at which point it asked me to plug in my stick...odd considering it already was connected! so i thought **** it! i uninstalled both the saitek g-extensions setup and the actual program. And now the stick will register in the game controllers window, but whenever i go to test or calibrate it...magically it is not there! but as soon as i go back into the main game controllers window it searches for the stick and finds it, then when i go to test....you get the gist of it. i am beginning to lose all faith in humanity, and i might, dare i say it??? get a console! argh! |
