Running Win 98 Recovery disk trashed the peripherals & programs. Didn't delete them completely, just messed about enough so they don't work. Trying to reinstall.
Device manager shows no warnings; but does show LPT2 for two devices (2 ports). Ports: Printer Port (LPT1) - visioneer scanner Lava Parallel PCI (LPT2) - Zip drive Communications Port (Com 1) Printer is plugged into USB port with Entraga USB to Parallel Converter installed. Details under the printer show: LPT2USB1: BJC-620 raster driver Both Lava Parallel (Zip) and USB (printer) using LPT2? Is something wrong here? |

Do all 3 devices work? If so - no problem - the USB printer driver is using a "virtual" LPT2. If they don't all work, then you have a problem.

Scanner works
Printer- error message reads: There was an error writing to LPT2USB1. There was a problem printing to the port. Check to make sure your printer is configured to use a valid port. Zip removable drive - the install disk won't work, so I'm not sure about it. All 3 are getting power. LED lites are lit. |

In that case, I would find a way in the Canon driver to set the port emulation to LPT3.

New clue. Port info has changed.
Opened the Printer - Properties The Port listing shows "LPT2USB1-Unknown USB printer" Logic: the USB to Parallel Printer Converter isn't operating. I'll track down the wires tonite or tomorrow. |

I decided quickest way was to Remove from the Device Manager and do a fresh install. Still no luck.
Under troubleshooting it suggested changing the IRQ settings. I hate doing that. Kept troubleshooting. Guess what got the printer working? Disable bi-directional support in the spool settings. I'll repost this one as a TroubleShooting Tip at the top of the Peripheral Forum. A lot of weeks spent to find a simple solution. |
