Hi markkerr,
Your CPU temp under load is fine. Try taking off the case sides to see if it is a heat related problem (system or case temp might be high). Also, what software do you have installed and running in background when the restarts occur? And what OS are you using? You could try running your system without the Zip Drive and optical drives. They probably aren't the cause, but make sure. Are all your drivers updated? Did the Creative Modem Blaster install go smoothly? Cricket

The last time it restarted my daugter was justing getting online. I am running Windows 98 SE. The MB temp is 73C The case temp is not high because I still feel cool air venting from the back... and as I stated before, the system was running only fifteen minutes before the restart occured. When I do CTL ALT DEL here is what is running in the background: Data Life Guard Agent (western digital drive) Explorer msbb Em_exec Imgicon Atiptaxx systray Rnaapp Also, All software installed with no porblems. One expection, the ATI all in wonder radeon hung on the inititial installation. I reinstalled the software and it was fine. Thanks, markkerr |

Hi markkerr,
What does the Western Digital Data Life Guard Agent do? Is it some kind of drive overlay? I've heard drive overlays can cause weird problems. 73 degrees C is 163 degrees F...which is really really hot. Did you mean 73 degrees F? Cricket

Here is the blurb from the WD site: Data Lifeguard Hardware Features Embedded error detection and repair features that automatically detect, isolate and repair problem areas that may develop over the extended use of the hard drive. S.M.A.R.T. monitors hard drive operation to predict errors before data loss occurs. Protective head parking is an exclusive new feature that adds another layer of protection to auto park by safely parking the heads even if other system components lose functionality. Environmental protection filters offer added protection to the inside of the hard drive from humidity, temperature and contamination. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I did use the data lifeguard disk to setup the drive. Thanks markkerr |

Hi markkerr,
Go into BIOS and disable the S.M.A.R.T. feature and see if that helps. Cricket

I went into the bios and could not find the smart features. The Data Lifeguard Agent is launching at startup. I see it while running msconfig. Can you be more specific where to find the S.M.A.R.T. in the bios. Thanks, markkerr |

Hi markkerr,
It's possible that your BIOS does not have the S.M.A.R.T. feature in it. Try turning off the Data Lifeguard Agent in msconfig and see if that helps. After you reboot the system, make sure the Data Lifeguard Agent is really disabled (it might restart with each bootup). Cricket

Thanks Cricket,
I'll try to turn if off in msconfig and then double-check to see it's not running after I boot. Thanks, markkerr |
