I have a Mememorex 2642 burner (2 meg buffer) which is really a yamaha. On my old 233 system it worked fine. Now I get all sorts of buffer under run errors mostly when trying to copy from a cd. It doesn't matter if I have it go from the cd to the hd or not.
I have the cdr set up as primary slave and the cdrom (40x) as secondary slave. The system is an AMD K6-3 @ 500. Maxtor 8.4gb as primary and a Western Digital 5 gig on secondary channel. I have auto insert and dma turned off on both cdrom and cdr. Any ideas? I use adaptec and NTI to burn with. TIA!!! |

Try switching the CD-RW and the CD-ROM's. Memorex recommends that the CD-RW be secondary slave. Also defrag. Closing anything that isn't neccessary to the OS and the burn would help. You won't need your AV program or your Utilities on for the burn.
Also, make sure there is a minimun of vibration from anything. I maybe wrong on that but on my system, the CD-ROM causes enough vibration to cause problems. [This message has been edited by Misdiagnosed (edited 07-19-2000).] |

I wholeheartedly agree with Misdiagnosed; I used to have similar buffer underrun problems on my slower system with my HP-CDRW if I had ANYTHING else running (I had to clean stuff out with the task manager and go to a CDimage on the hard drive after defragmenting prior to burning anything). One quick thing I'll add is that a friend of mine had similar problems that resolved when he put a new IDE cable in. Sounds simple but it worked for him.
