How Cool?

Hello All,
Im curious about something. It seems I am always reading how cool the Intel's run,and the AMD's are just too hard to keep cool.Im just wondering How cool do the Intel's run?
I am running my AMD Athlon 1600+ with the stock HS/fan that came in the box,and right now im running at 102F,and it never goes above 110F even with Heavy gameplay.
Please note this is in no way intended to start an amd/intel war.I have used both, and I think both are GREAT cpu's.
I would be curious in hearing some of the temps you are running.Thanks.

Hi edave123,

Your temps are look real good! I'm running the 1800+ and it will go to about 120'F, as in now. Just got done gaming, now here.

Yes, AMD runs hotter, but I never heard about they are too hard to cool. The prior T-Birds did run hotter than our XPs, but the stock fans do the job.

Intel processors are much more resistant to heat. They can be overclocked with less of a chance of having the chip crack or chip.

Just a little note, while the AMD's and Intels are running at similar temps with similar heat sinks, the noticable difference comes with the fan RPM's. The fans that come with retail P4's generally chug along quite quietly at a lazy 2500 RPM while the fans that come with retail AMD's are purring along at about 4500 RPM, then, for those that want something a little beefier, there are the 6000RPM screamers. If you set all things equal, heat sink size, fan RPM, etc, you would find the AMD running a few degrees warmer. I'll give credit where credit is due though, the XP's are definitely getting the temps down to reasonable levels.

BTW, I removed the factory thermal pad from my retail P4 and used thermal compound (not Arctic Silver) and under a 100% processor load run at 100'F.

HAL's post made me look, as I forgot what rpm I'm running at. The "stock" CoolerMaster (forgot the model number....) is indeed purring along at an even 5000 rpm. Haven't done any game play, so the CPU temp is staying at 110'F

For some reason my mother board monitor is not reading my rpms.I was messin with it one day,and most likely just messed up a setting.I looked at it and its running right along, and the temp is at 104.Oh well, gives me something to play with later

Hi edave123,

the last time I had a mobo that didn't read the rpms, I had the power cable plugged into the wrong connector.... I assume you already double checked this?

my T-Bird with a HSF that might as well be stock runs at 52º C (120º F) under a full oad (and it is overclocked alittle bit, but I have heard of P4's running without any heatsink for up to a minute.
