Question MS mouse 4 linux

can anyone tell me how i can get my new mouse working on my PC? i am running Red Hat 7.2, it is a MS mouse with many buttons. i just want to get a 3rd button recogninzed, but i have had no luck with the mouseconfig tool or just rebooting. it is call the MS 'Trackball optical'. thanks for the help.

This question would go better in Alternate OS forums, but I will try to help.
What you may end up doing is changing your version of XFree86 to 4.x.x instead of 3.3.x. After you have done that, you will need to edit your XFree86.config file to look like the one here http://www.deadman.org/X/xbuttons.html He explains it very well in a cook book like fashion for us newbies .

Hope this helps you out some.
