This wouldn't happen to be a printer that has both USB and Parallel connections?

I have had some similar problems with certain HP's if you try the USB install first and then for whatever reason you decide that you want it on the LPT port it somehow can't be found. For HP's the offer some type of registry srubber. Let us know what type of printer you have and a little more details as to what you have already done. HTH

Oh, pc specs wouldn't hurt also.

cannon 4000 bj printer, only a parallel port connection,no usb.

the printer has worked before on the pc, but I did connect a external cd writer to the port, the only change i had to make was in the bios, setting parallel port to ecp for faster writing reasons.

changed the ecp setting back to normal when I attached the printer again.

I have done this prior to yesterday and my printer has always worked before.

I have only one parallel port on the machine.

thanks

try disable'ing the LPT port in bios, and then delete the LPT port in Device manager, and reboot, and the re-enable it, and install a new driver.

try that.

hope this helps.
