Jerky mouse in IE6

I don't know if this is a mouse problem or if it is an IE6 problem but I'll post it here. I have a Microsoft Intellimouse optical. I can be running IE6 (and this only happens in IE6) and after 45 minutes or so the mouse will freeze and then start moving in jerky 1 inch increments when I move it. Most times it will not return control of the computer to me and I have to reboot to get out. I would suspect a virus but I have run Housecall and it says I have no viruses. This does not happen with Agent or any other program, just when I'm online with IE6. I have run the fix in IE6 but I have not reinstalled it. Does anyone have any ideas?
