I've had this problem for quite a few weeks now.
I had my machine put together about a year ago, and shortly afterwards, my CD drive dumped out on me, so I started using one from and older machine, which dumped out on me a few weeks after installation. About two months ago, I bought a CDRW drive thinking it might've been a hardware problem, but after a month it quit working, with the exact same error the other two drives had. The drives are all recognized as being installed, but when any disc is put in, it acts as if it is unable to read it. Exactly it says "Please insert disc into drive D:" The funny thing is that all the drives work in my old 266Mhz computer with no trouble. I've tried every different master/slave chain combination I can think of, and even went so far as to replace my motherboard and flashed the bios, but to no avail. I really would hate to spend more money for CD drives, only to have them drop on me like the other ones. I am currently running Windows ME 1.2 Ghz AMD Duron board w/ K7AMA chipset ATI Rage 128 Video card SMC Ethernet Adapter 30 GB Hard Drive Philips PCRW804 CDRW drive ATAPI 50X CD-ROM drive Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

It is not nessecary to post in multiple locations, in fact it makes following your problem more difficult.
