MP3 Players
I have an enormous mp3 collection on my PC from albums I have ripped to mp3 format. I have now decided that I need an mp3 player so I can listen on the move. Is there anyone who has any experience in using any particular mp3 players. I am mainly interested in mp3 players with large capacities, 1GB+ but I think I could maybe manage with something like CompactFlash or MagicGate because I usualy just listen to a select few songs at a time.
I am not too worried about what connection it uses (USB2.0 or Firewire would be preferable). One last thing is there anyone whos knows of an mp3 player using the IBM microdrive, because size wise it would appeal to me. Thanks to Anyone who helps me out. |

Check out the Creative Labs Nomad Jukebox or the Archos Jukebox Recorder, both store 6GB.

hey, i've got the Sony NW-MS7 mp3 player. i have 3 64mb magic gate memory sticks for it. with low quality i can fit a bit over 20songs on 1 stick. i love my mp3 player. it's very small and compact. it converts songs from mp3 to ATRAC3 so it's more compressed but still sounds great. get a sony mp3 player, i think they're great. a friend of mine had a rio but mine was able to hold more songs b/c of sony's software.

Although larger in size you can get the players that use MP3s burn to a CD-R.

As morriswindgate pointed out, there are portable CD players that will read CD-R's encoded with mp3s. My wife and I both ahve our own Rio Volts. She's had hers for a while and loves it -- I decided I wanted the one with the am/fm radio so I had to wait -- they have been out of stock around here for ever. Just got it and I love it.

i have a TDK Mojo mp3CD player. it's really nice. it supports cutsom playlists, search by artist, directory, song, and genre. it has a backlit display and 4 different preset equalizer settings. it's the size of a regular discman, and it plays normal cd's also. it's got 45 seconds antiskip for normal cd's, and 8-minutes when playing mp3's. it also has an line-out. if your car stereo is not equipped for mp3 cd's, you can either hook the player up to the line in (if your deck has one), or there are special adapters that convert your cd-changer out so that the mp3 player can hook up to it.
with high quality songs (192 bitrate, like 5 or 6 megs a piece), i can fit around 160 songs on one cd. this provides hours of listening without having to switch anything. they're on sale at best buy for like $129.

Well I am sorta aiming away from mp3 cd players because it will mainly be used while jogging and cycling. I am really interested in the IBM microdrive (which seems to have pretty good capacity) but I have been unable to find any mp3 players using it. Is there anyone out there that knows anything about it?

I just suggest that you purchase your MP3 player from a place that will give you a full refund if not satisfied. Three times I tried to buy my son an MP3 player. I discovered there are a lot of standards, all called MP3. Some players will play some types of MP3s but not other types.

That Rio Riot you talk about looks quite good but also a little big? Is it bigger than the Creative DAP Jukebox? I'm not good with dimensions you see!
