I have a 1GHz P3 Dell Latitude 8100, and it has been great. Huge screen, sharp picture, fast (GeForce2 Go for video), 20GB HD, 256MB RAM. For $5K, you should be able to buy two...

Well, since Scott answered the question and the word "Macs" was used, I feel obligated to jump in. It's tradition, after all.

Before i can rant about what an amazing notebook the powerbook G4 is, I hafta ask: what do you want to DO with the laptop? games? code? graphics? surfing? music?

Scott, good to see ya again.

<---fedexs Scott valium

and come ON! they have not made purple and pink Macs in years. Tho, i do admit that the "Flower Power" and "Blue Dalmatian" iMacs did make me wanna hurl.

I agree. If you want to play games, get a PC. If you need it for graphics, get the Mac.

And for the record, lugging this black Dell around has never scored me a date. I think I will get some Krylon and paint it blue.

I would go with Toshiba, personally, as I always have. The Toshiba Satellite PRo 6100 tote a P4 with a Geforce4 graphics adapter. Check it out at Toshiba's Satellite 6100 page .

Dell and IBM notebooks tend to have the best performance. The Dell is probably the better gaming machine. I have a Dell I really like but the plastic case seems a little flimsy to me. I really like the Panasonic Toughbooks as well, but they are very expensive and don't offer the latest graphics.
