SB Live! to receiver
Alright seeing as 'most people' do it this way here is what I tried. I wanted to hook my PC (SB Live 5.1) up to my Receiver. I bought a six foot long minijack to rca adapter and a 20 foot long minijack extension cord from Radio Shack.
The 'tech' at radio shack told me that the extension cord would cause a loss in volume but not sound quality. I plugged the extension cord into the 'G' plug or the closest plug to the game port on my SB Live!. I Plugged the mini to RCA into the extension cord then into an available spot on my receiver. My receiver is a Sony and is about 6 years old. Nice model though. The sound was horrible. If the sound stayed in a certain pitch range it was fine but if it did something the setup didn't 'like' the sound would come out as a horrible static crunch with only a hint of what it was supposed to be. Where's the problem? I would like to try it without the extension cord because I expect that may be the problem. But the tower & Receiver are about 12 feet away from each other and it would be an extreme pain to try that. I tried all of the other plugs on the card as well and got nothing. Tell me what you think. Thanks. |

You must use the Line Out on the Sound Card and the AUX IN or on some sonys I believe it is labeled MD

Yes, on some of the inputs it will give the sound you got because the amount of amplification you are getting. Also make sure that you use the line out on the sound card and not the speaker plug.

Alright thanks for the help morris, the sound is working great... Hot today huh?
For the record my receiver is a Sony STR-D515 and the proper input was labled Tape/MD. The opposite end of the minijack was plugged into the lime lineout of the SB Live. |

Cool, glad you got it working. Yeah and if it stays this hot we can welcome back the blackouts.
