CPU Voltages
Hi,
I have just built a pc using an Asus A7A133-A Skt A and AMD T-Bird 1.333mhz processor. It has booted up no problem but the hardware monitor is reporting an abnormal voltage and no matter what I change I can't drop this voltage down and the system hangs. The cpu temp is reporting fine and all voltages except from the top one 5v or something is running at 5.5v when it should be around 4v. I have set the motherboard to the jumperless mode and the cpu is running at 1.333mhz. Any ideas? Thanx for any help you can give

What voltage should be running at 4v?.
System should show 12v,5v and the cpu should read 1.7-1.85v. It's normal for the 5v to run a little over and the same goes for the 12v.If you're using monitoring software, change the tolerance settings in the program. |

Hi,
Thanks for your help, BUT, I am unable to install the operating system as it keeps restarting itself and when it does the installation is unable to continue. There is no reason for the restarting and I have been told to flash the bios but can't do this without windows installed. Its frustrating. I hopefully have a qualified pc builder (a mate) onto it this weekend. Thanks again for your help and yes it is a 1.333Ghz T-bird processor

Hi mikey_dude,
Normally you would flash the BIOS from DOS, not Windows. What do you have installed on the motherboard now? To install the operating system, you only need the motherboard, CPU, heatsink, 1 stick of RAM, video card, power supply, floppy, CD-ROM drive and the hard drive. Is the motherboard recognizing the CPU correctly? Are you sure the RAM is not faulty? You might want to set the BIOS to the default settings during the operating system installation. What OS are you trying to install? Are you getting any error messages at all during the installation process? Cricket

Hi Cricket,
Thats all I have installed. The processor is set up correctly in bios, and is set to the correct settings. The post beep occurs to the hardware is fine. The hardware monitor reports that one of the voltages is running a little too high but I don't think thats the prob. During preparation of the hard disk, every minute or so it gives three beeps (I looked in the book and that means processor overheating or frequency low) and I have no choice but to continue so I just hit delete. However, when I've finished and ready to install Windows 98 it frequently restarts itself for no reason and it does this in the middle of an activity and it messes it right up. When it comes back it always says theres an error and I usually end up reformatting the disk. I have installed win 98 now but I have a load of security certificate things to agree to (I've never seen them before) and as soon as I try to do something explorer crashes and it restarts itself. It's confusing me big time and I can tell you the processor is NOT overheating. It's a losing battle and its the last pc I build ![]() Mikey
