Green Screen on monitor

I know I saw a post related to this a while back but I couldn't find it. My dad's monitor fades from full color to green tone and back to color. Sometimes green for a few seconds, sometimes a few minutes. Is this typically a vid card issue or a monitor issue. Video card is 3.5 years (Jaton with Intel 740 chipset if I remember correctly). Monitor is 6mo refurb Gateway 17".

Besides checking cable connections and reseating video card, is there anything else I should try. I want to load my troubleshooter before I make the trip to work on it.

Sounds more like a monitor problem to me. This kind problem is usually not a video card issue in my experience. If possible hook the monitor up to another system and see what happens. I bet it acts the same.

Its the monitor. I'v worked on TV's, and some monitors. sound like there may be a short happing on the chips in the monitor, or maybe the gun's are going bad. but hard to say. a local tv shop may be able to repair it. or just buy a new monitor. it may be cheeper to buy new...

I had the same problem on a previous computer and I had a "CHEAP" monitor I borrowed from someone who had it in storage and it was the monitor.
