The importance of a quality HSF and Artic Silver.
I just finished repairing a computer for a friend that had been having problems for about six weeks, but do to conflicting schedules was just now able to look at it. The computer is a 800MHZ Duron on an MSI board with one case fan (intake) and a high end Vantec HSF installed with Artic Silver. I had not been to concerned with the unit since the problem as described sounded like a software conflict. To my suprise when I got this machine to cause problems, I found that the motherboard CPU fan connector had quit working. I simply changed it to a power supply lead and it was off and running again with no CPU damage.
So to all the question it, the only thing that saved this CPU was a Premium HSF and Artic Silver. |
