how do i know what parts are fried?
I just fried my K7S5A mobo. I was trying to make my illuminated power switch glow by connecting it to a yellow wire from the power supply. Big mistake. anyway, im pretty sure the power supply is fine, and im not positive that the mobo is fried, but it doesnt turn on, even when i jump it with a screwdriver. Im about to go to a computer show tomorrow, and i can go ahead and buy some extra parts, but i wanna know if my CPU is fried too. Is it? its an XP 1700 AMD. I also have a stick of DDR 128 in there, is it likely that it is fried too? i'd like to know so i wont have to waste any money buying parts that already work. THanx

oh yeah...i forgot one thing
i dont have a spare computer to try the parts out with, so i cant disassemble the computer and connect it with other parts to find the faulty ones. I just need general knowledge on whether when the motherboard shorts the CPU and memory do too. It was working fine before i decided to be stupid and connect the wrong prong to the +5v wire.

Pull the board out, look for burn marks, and smell for burns. Take your processor off and look for burn marks on the processor and socket. So the same with the ram and all of the expansion cards. Honestly, I don't know if I would try to power anything up with that power supply any more, either.
