1 computer dead, move hd to another
ok......apparently the power supply and the motherboard on my main computer got lightning or something, even though it was on a battery back up with surge supression. I thought, ok, move the hardrive out of it, into the backup computer. Here's the problem.
Main computer was running WinXP. I had a very hard time originally installing it, had to have an 80 pin cable for the hardrive, etc. second computer is running win98SE. I have tried hooking the main computer hardrive as the master in the second computer and unhooked the hardrive that was in the second computer. Get a blue screen of death. Put the 80 pin cable in, same problem. Only way it will work (I'm in a hurry, business computer) is second computer hardrive as master drive, with the main computer hardrive set as the slave. Will boot fine into win98SE. I can use My Computer and the main computer hardrive shows as "D" drive. I need to access Quickbooks Pro 2002, but when I goto Program Files, Intuit, and click on the startup logo, I get a .dll error message and the program will not run. Some of my programs will run others won't. I use a program called Incredimail as my default mail program, I cannot get it to start from the D drive. I have got to acess my emails to see who has used Paypal and my credit card processing link to see who has paid and if they want their item shipped to an alternate address. I probably have about 100 emails that I had downloaded late Friday night to my computer. How do I get my info and run the programs that I need from the "D" drive (again which was the original hardrive from the main computer). I cannot get past the blue screen saying there is a problem with my hardrive if I put the main computer hardrive as the master.

You have to reinstall the programs "over the top" of where they are now, telling them to install to the correct path on the "D" drive. Right now, Windows doesn't have a CLUE where your programs are located.
Your other options are as follows: Try to get the XP drive to boot, maybe booting with the CD and doing a repair would work. Reinstall your programs on "C" and copy your data over from "D" to the right place on "C". Last edited by glc; 05-28-2002 at 08:49 PM. |
