CPU fan error even though plugged in properly

On another new build that I have just completed I get an error saying that the CPU fan isn't running, even though it is. I don't always get the error, it seems to be random. I know for SURE that it's plugged into the right spot on the Mobo, do I have a bad mobo or fan? If so I better send in for new ones soon.

Thanks,

-Sporky

Might be a bad sensor wire.
What type of fan?
If it's a Delta 38 ,it should be run off the power supply,as should any fan drawing over .35 amps.

Hi spork891,

It almost sounds as if you're talking about one of those "talking" motherboard? I build a few and they just don't get it right. They seem to always start with an error message, like no fan, no CPU installed, etc. Since the systems are working just fine, and since the little voice gets very annoying very quckly, I've disabled them all.

HTH

A BIOS update may cure that problem.

Could be easy enough to check the CPU fan if you have a spare one-throw it on and see,If not look and see if all three wires on the fan look to be in the connector well and not cut, pulled or damaged.
Might also look to the Motherboard site to see if others have had the same problem-if so they should have a remedy.hth

The fan is a thermaltake volcano 7

Does anyone know MSI's official website? The mobo is a kt3 ultra.

Thanks for the suggestions.

There don't seem to be any significant BIOS updates. The problem hasn't shown up for a couple of days now at least. I'm thinking about just leaving it alone as long as the problem doesn't crop up again.

Updating your BIOS... does that require reformatting hard drives and starting over? Are there any benefits if you aren't having any trouble?

If your not having problems,it would be unnecessary to flash the BIOS.
Flashing the bios allows you SOMETIMES to be able to use processors and other hardware you wernt able to use before. If its working good Id leave it alone-if not I would look to see if the problem I had was being addressed by the BIOS update, and I would never flash a bios that the computer wasnt atleast partically stable-if it locks when the bios is being flashed-its pretty much a bag of worms.
BTW I dont feel it is necessary to format and reinstall the OP if your flashing the bios--IMHO
