Dell Optiplex GX1
Allo all...
I just bought a used computer, its the Dell OptiPlex GX1 (P2 450, 128MB RAM, ATI RagePro 4MB vidcard), basically I am gonna use this for a Windows2000 Server for MCSE training. Picked up the computer, monitor, keyboard, mouse all for 300$ CDN. HOWEVER!!! when I got this beaster home, they never gave me any drivers. I tried to get them off of the Dell site but they are asking me for information that I can't supply, reason, I can't find the number they want me to put in. So what I am wondering...is there any other Driver dump that anyone knows about for this machine?...Thanks |

Look on the back of the machine for a small bar code sticker that has a 5 or 7 digit alphanumeric code - that's your "service tag number" that they want. If it's gone, you CAN get a generic page for that model series last time I looked. I doubt that Dell would have Win2K drivers for that age machine anyway, just NT and 95/98. I would bet that Win2K would have native drivers for everything in the box, those were pretty generic machines as I remember, just try an install and see what happens. I've done both clean and upgrade installs of Win2K on Dell Dimension 4100's and the only drivers I have had to chase were Intel i815 chipset drivers - this won't be the case on your box because I think that's a BX board, no drivers necessary.

Thanks for teh advice though...I found that number that you were talking about...going to see if that works with the site. |
