OK... People on this board are very smart... hope you can help me.
I have a SOYO SY-7vca2 MB. I have been running a 433 mhz Celeron. I just purchased a 1 ghz / 256 /133 / 1.7v Pentium III. The mother board supports up to a 1.13 ghz Coppermine. Here is my problem. When I plug in the new CPU, the board detects the CPU and returns the proper mhz and bus speed. Then it successfully completes the memory check. Then it freezes. I reset the CMOS but that didn't help. I stuck the 433 back in and everything runs fine. The model number of the PIII is SL4C8. I think it's a Coppermine. Any ideas on what I need to do to get this new CPU to work with my MB? Thanks! Doug-inNC |

It may need a BIOS update.

Just a long shot, but are you running PC100 or 133 SDRAM and not PC66 SDRAM?. The older Celys would run fine on PC66 and it was commonly found with the 433.
Also as suggested by Hal, check the Soyo site for a bios update. They've got very good support for their board. Last edited by LawyerRon; 06-17-2002 at 11:01 PM. |

Thanks gentlemen.. I've sent a note to Soyo support to see about the Bios.
The RAM is PC133..... I've updated it within the past year. Thanks |
