What is the different between USB 1.1 and USB 2.0
Hello, can anyone help me. I have some quesiton about USB ports. What is the different between USB 1.1 and USB 2.0? Isn't there any speed difference in between them. Also, what type of chipset support USB 2.0 and does USB 2.0 has backward compatability to support USB 1.1. Does USB 2.0 port support USB 1.1 device such as the zip drive which has USB 1.1 technology. And Also what type of chipset support USB 2.0 what particular things i need to look for when i buy a motherboard to see whether it support USB 2.0 or not. Please help!!

Hi wilbasket23,
The major difference between USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 is speed, USB 1.1 maximum speed is 12 Mbps while USB 2.0 is 480 Mbps which is obviously a huge improvement and good for using things like digital camera for transfering files. And yes, USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 are backwards compatable, they use the same connectors and wires. As for USB 2.0 support, I'm not sure of all the chipsets that have it yet, but most DDR333 based chipsets (like the KT333 which does have USB 2.0 support) and above should have it. Hope that helps. |

The new MSI K7T333ARU for the AMDs packs USB 2.0 ports. However there are varieties of the same mobos that lack some features. So you better look out fot them. In the case of the MSI, RU stands for: RAID and USB 2.0. If it has only the R it means it has RAID but no USB 2.0, and if it has U but no R, then it has USB 2.0 but no RAID. HTH
