Cheap MB and Cheap Ram don't mix well with the Duron for OverClocking...who could have guessed that..

My boss got a a cheap MB I will post the band tomorrow..
With cheap ram...Jumperless MB so no setting this clock.
Installed win98 fine with everything standard...

tried to step up the clock in the bios, the the highest I could get aboot was 105 for a speed of 630 MHZ, the CAS has to be set to 3, if it is set to 2 at 105, No boot to bios.

The Ram is pc 133, but I can't even find a name on it.

So in short, I believe the shortage of Overclockablitiy is the MB and Ram in this case...

set at 600 mhzIt moves on...Tomorrow I will test a seti unit on it and let you guys know....

Oh!This is a PM(duh!
FSB overclocking with the Via chipset is very limited.
This is caused by two things,AMD asked them(Via)to limit the fsb overclocking and the EV6 bus, which runs at a double rate, hence 200mhz,any change to that bus speed also doubles.
Hence a 133mhz bus speed now reads as a 266fsb!
On the best Socket A boards hitting over 110mhz fsb is rare.
On a cheap board,well...
This is why when overclocking the Socket A cpus the closing of the L1 bridges and using a mobo with multipliers on board is the way to go.
As you know when we can change the multiplier and overclock this way,a more stable situation is created,as its the cpu that's being overclocked and the rest of the system remains in spec.
If you have 133 memory you can always run the memory at that speed via bios and tweak the fsb.
But,as stated tweaking is all you may get!
It sounds like the mobo may be PcChips or a Lucky Star.
Am I right?

I forgot to post back. It is an AaZZa board. If I leave the Cas on 3, I can adjust fsb to 105, but if I put it on cas 2 I can't up the fsb.
