mobo in hp
Happy 4th everyone!
I'm working on an HP Pavilion 6475Z. At the HP website, this mobo is listed (part # D7377-69004 price: 380.00 - Motherboard (system board) - Falcon 2B, v1.01-C05). I've looked up Falcon mobo's and can't find out anything. I see an Asus chip, but other than that I can't turn the computer on and get any info. Lightning struck this. Power supply is okay and mobo is fried. Any brand mobo would normally do as long as it supports the celeron 466 cpu that I have, but, this case is weird. It has a skinny cable (looks like an ide or fdd cable) that connects to some pins on the mobo for the power button. Plus, the wires that connect to the pins on the mobo for the power button, speaker, etc. have all wires going to just one big connector. I can't tell what order these are in and where I could connect them on something different besides this thing. It also has an audio riser card. Is that necessary as long as there is a sound card installed? Since lightning struck this computer, would I need to replace all parts? I know I'm asking a lot of questions for one post, but if this mobo is bad, why would the fan turn on the cpu? What is the first thing I should check when this happens? |

That is a proprietary mobo made by Asus to HP's specs. I think you are looking at a total writeoff there, standard mobos won't fit in a HP case.

A quick check would be to replace just the RAM. I've had this happen before where the CPU fan which is powered off of the MOBO would run, but that was it. It's worth a try if you have a spare hanging around.

I agree that this is a total write-off and don't waste a lot of time with it. It's hard to get paid for your time when in the end you only confirm what you already know. Best thing to do is to put the panels back on the case and tell the people to contact their home owners insurance. Don't even start taking it apart as just get it back to the owner, you don't want anything that can be cited as you causing additional problems.
