Smile How to connect the S-video port to the TV

Hello, can anyone help me. I brought a new graphic cards which has a S-video port in it. I don't know what does it used for. is it use to connect your TV to the PC via S-video cable. What other functionality does the S-video port has. Can we use it to connect to digital media such as, Camcorder or DV to perform movie capturing and movie editing functionality. Also, can we connect the S-video port to VCR or DVD player to play DVD and VCR Tape in the computer screen. Also, what is the difference between TV Tuner card and S-video port is it both are the same. or is different Also, my graphics card claims that it has TV-out functionality what does it used for. Thank You

Hi,

the s-video output jack does just output video. You can connect a TV there, also a VCR, well anything that has video input.
Only a few graphics cards have an s-video input jack, so unless you bought a card with this feature you have only a s-video output, so you can't do any capturing.
Means your s-video is a tv-out, coz you can output not only to PC monitor, but to TV.

TV tuner is the receiver electronics that receive a TV signal to display to the monitor. With a TV tuner you can use your PC as a TV.

I recently bought a similar card, the guy a BestBuy told me the only option is you must have S-video input on your TV, but I have elsewhere found out that there is a cable to adapt s-video to composite video, like your TV probably has. I do believe you will have to run a connection from your sound card also to audio input on TV to get sound. Have heard the picture will not be as clear and crisp as your computer monitor though!

Yep, there are S-Video to RCA adapters. And S-Video transferres only video, no sound, so you're right, the sound connection is extra.
The TV is extremely low quality. Nothing for work, etc., only good for watching videos or play games.
