Having just bought my first laptop from someone, I had to install an operating system. I put win 98se on wich worked great, but the desktop only uses the center part of my monitor. How do I adjust it to use the whole 13.5" of screen? In settings it is set to use the entire screen. This is a Compaq Armada 1598, 266, 4 gig, 98 ram.

normally all you need to do is right click anywhere on the desktop and select display, then set your color and size you want, and if the proper drivers are installed you can change the settings.
if by chance you cannot change from 16 colors to 256 colors, then you do not have the proper drivers installed for the display and or the video for your system. |

I assume you used a Windows 98 disk and not a recovery disk. You probably need to install the correct video driver. Download the driver your laptop model and the correct OS from the comcrap website, enable it, and you'll get the whole screen.

I am able to change from 16 to 256 colors, but the desktop is still small.

I assume it's 640x480. Set it to 800x600
