My system eats monitors?!?!

Hi folks,

I have an NT system at work that keeps blowing monitors. The monitors are just plain ole VGA's, plugged into a UPS. For a period of time before the monitors go out you can spot intermittent screen flashes every now and then and then suddenly one day they up and die. I've already gone through two, maybe three, monitors on this system over the past year.

Is there such a thing as bad power outlets on a UPS? I wouldn't be getting any power spikes from the video card would I?

Thanks in advance!
Wanabe

What kinda videocard does the Monitor Killah have?

What is the refreshrate set to. Try setting it to 60 and leaving it there...if you are running old VGA 640X480 monitors...its wise not to push them hard. Also drop the colour from 16Bit to 256 colours...might not look nice but the monitors might have a longer lifespan.

Give those a try and let me know if they were helpful

Be careful if you are trying to beef up the resolution, that can also blow the monitor.

Thanks for the input folks.

I'm not sure what kind of video card it has but it's not too old. My guess would be 3yrs. The monitors I used are not that old either and should be able to handle at least 800 x 600 res. however, I've changed my current res to 640 x 480. Also, I've set the color to 16bit, it was set to 256 before. I'll watch and see and if it starts to flicker again I'll plug it into an alternate outlet on the UPS, or maybe into a different UPS.

Thanks,
Wanabe

3 years in computing terms means it's ancient!

I was wondering why I wasn't feeling well recently. My boys are right - I'm ancient!
