First build, controller card problems

I have just completed building my first computer (kind of). Everything works great except for when I try to use my hard drives on my controller card. It is a Promise ultra133 TX2 controller. I installed the card following it's instructions, which were, I put the card in the pci slot, hooked up the hard drive to the normal ide channel on the mother board, installed windows and pressed F6 at the beggining when it asks if you want to install a raid or scsi device, again, following the directions I intserted the floppy at the right time during the windows install and choose the correct drive from the list. Windows continued to install succesfully and the controller card did show up in the device manager as being installed. I then shut down the computer, switched the ide cables from the mother board to the controller card, and restarted the computer. This is were I run into problems. during bootup before windows tries to start, there is a message saying that "the promise card is detecting drives" or somtheing like that. It does detect the hard drive and then continues to boot. At this point I get the error message. It is as follows:
"Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem. Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware. Please check the windows documentation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional information."
I have the ide cable plugged into ide port 1 on the controller card, the hard drive plugged into the master end of the ide cable, and the hard drive jumpered to master. I have tried just about every other configuration I can think of such as jumpering to cable seclect, slave, ide port 2 on the controller card and so on. I have tried switching pci slots on the mother board and changing ide cables with no luck.
I can move the ide cable back to the mother board and everyting boots up fine (I am writing this message on this computer). I have tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling it directly from windows with the same results. I can't think of what else to try and am reluctant to say that the controller card is bad since it does correctly detect any drives that I put on it. Does anyone know what my problem might be?

Since posting the previous message, I have continued to work with it and have figured out something strange. I can hook up my second hard drive to the controller card, the main bootable hard drive to the mother board, and boot it up fine and use the hard drive on the controller card with no problems. It seems that I just can't boot from the controller card. I have no way to boot from the other hard drive with my main drive connected to the controller card to see if the problem is with my main hard drive, but as I say, the main hard drive works fine when connected to the mother board. By the way, the main hard drive is a maxtor ultra133 80 GB quiet drive. I also forgot to mention in my last post, I set the bios to boot from scsi when trying to boot from the controller card, although I also tried a few other boot options.
