Keeps detecting new hardware
Ok this is getting old
I replaced my mobo and all seems fine(much better actually) Except when I boot up 2 things: 1. It keeps detecting a wave modem device and then telling me it can't find the drivers for it. I have a Broadxent v 92 modem, but I point it at the disc, at my computer, at windows update, and it can't find drivers. The Broadxent website doesn't even list the model# 3631 at all for poss drivers. What's up. 2. It also keeps detecting my sound card and trying to reinstall it( it's already installed and seems to work fine) so it shows up in the device manager as other with a yellow ? I can remove it and go on, but when I reboot it happens all over again. I disabled pnp in the BIOS -no help. Any clues/hints Thanks

Hi Needtoknow,
What OS are you on? Try booting into Safe Mode (hold the Shift key after the first boot screen switches to the next) and go into Device Manager. Check for multiple entries for those devices. If you find duplicates (or multiple) entries, remove them all and reboot. Windows will detect the devices again (hopefully for the last time). Cricket

Modem: When getting drivers off of disks I have had to sometimes point to the particular folder on the disk where the driver is. Alot of driver disks that are sent with hardware have a bunch of ther drivers and crap on them. Just pointing to the drive where the driver disk is has not always worked for me.
Sound card: If you keep getting duplicate entries in device manager, disable one of them then reboot. Hope this helps. |

Hi,
I am using 98se, I'll try the safe mode(why safe mode for this?) I have done that without safe mode. The wave modem is part of the rest of this modem package with voicemail etc on it. I have taken the thing to the driver folder and stuffed it's nose down in it... (seemed that way) it finally found the drivers for the modem and I got that installed, but on this wave modem device it is no luck. The thing is I have had this thing installed before(on old mobo) and didn't even hear of this device. bosco, Itried what you recommend and when I reboot it refinds the sound card again and places under other device category in device manager even though it is installed and working correctly under sound, game device. I shall try both again though. Thanks Guys |

Is this your Modem? DSI Modem Di3631. It's the closest thing I could find on the Broadxent website. Drivers are available on this page.
Hope this helps. Last edited by bosco; 07-21-2002 at 06:19 PM. |

Hey Cricket,
I see what you mean about safe mode that is cool. This thing had almost an entire system duped so to speak. I mean almost everything in there twice ! Strange. I got gungho and started removing stuff to let the system find it, and accidently removed the pci bus and have spent hours trying to get the driver to load for it and the modem and the video card. Now it is up and I can go to bed. Cool about the safe mode though... Thanks for the info. |

I’m glad I could help. I went through something similar a while back. A little creative searching did the trick.

you have a voice fax data modem and it will show two modems in devices, you do need to load the drivers for the voice modem too.

bailey- two devices in modems under device manager? Or two separate devices-a modem and a voice whatever?
It seems like the voice modem drivers are in some other part of the disc/downloads? Or is it late plus I'm nuts Hey Bosco- now I remember.. you go to download the driver you pointed me at (i just tried) and it asks you to choose an os, I pick 98, it says "sorry we haven't loaded (or some term) any drivers for this os yet" Is that a cruel joke or what??? Amazing but true Last edited by Needtoknow; 07-22-2002 at 12:33 AM. |
