unknown floppy problem,please help

I have been building comps for a short while and luckily haven't had any serious problems till now, so I am humbly asking for someones, anyones expertise to please help me with this problem. The problem I am having is upon start up I am recieving 2 error messages.
1: Floppy Drive(s) Fail (40) - I have changed the floppy, the cable, and even gone as far as replacing the motherboard. I have also checked the BIOS and CMOS to make sure they are configured properly. The floppy doesn't work at all and the lite stays on at all times.
2: Also upon start up I also get this error message: Primary IDE Channel no 80 conductor cable installed. All the drives are working properly, and I'm not having problems, yet. But this one has me stumped, too.
Thank you in advance for any advice or help that you can give. Thanks, Phoneguy.

When the light on the floppy drive stays on all the time, it means you have the IDE cable in upside down. Flipping it over should do the trick.

Hi phoneguy,

Make sure the floppy cable is oriented properly. Red stripe to pin 1 on the motherboard and floppy drive. Connector with weird twist goes to floppy drive. If you only have 1 floppy drive, don't use the middle connector, that's for a second floppy or "b:" drive.

Make sure the correct type of floppy drive is selected in Standard CMOS Features.
There are two types of IDE cables now. The 80 wire Ultra ATA IDE cables are used with modern motherboards supporting ATA66/100/133 data transfer protocols. The cable has a fine texture on it's surface and 3 different colors for the connectors...blue goes to the motherboard, black goes to the drive you want as master and grey goes to the drive you want as slave. Drives are set to the CS (cable select) jumper setting.

The 40 wire ATA IDE cable is the standard cable that's used with the older ATA33 data transfer format. The cable has a rougher texture to it and the connector are all the same color and position on the cable makes no difference. Drives would use the master or slave jumper settings.
