See my reply on that "other" board, where you posted the same question.

I see what you mean by the other board ( still new to these boards). Did read that one but didnot have my password to reply.

Thanks for the string but won't my rate still be limited to the 115k bps through my current serial port.(have a new gigabyte 6VX7-4X MBO). Just read the diamond support page, it mentions that you would need to get a serial card with a 16750 uat chipset to obtain up to 230k bps rate. Can you achieve the 230k bps rate just by inserting the modem string or do I need to add a high speed (16750 uart)serial port?

I am still rather new in using the modem strings and trying to maximize my transfer rate with this modem(first external modem).

First, your speed is limited by the government, your system, and your phone line quality, and will come NOWHERE near 115,200bps, so forget the 230,400bps port setting.
You can download the Diamond utility to increase port speed to that, but it has (almost) no effect on throughput.
You probably already have a fast UART on board, and buying a separate serial interface board will be a waste of both money, and time.
This is assuming you're not running this on a 486, or an old PB P90.
You should read http://www.56k.com/ubb/Forum7/HTML/002202.html this and http://www.56k.com/ubb/Forum7/HTML/001995.html this.
You'll learn more than you ever wanted to know about DTE vs DCE.
